Kitchener, ON Employment Opportunities
Note from Chad Leman, Opportunity Coordinator for Kitchener:
I have been through the immigration/work permit process, so I felt I could shed some light on the process. We have been living in the Kitchener area now for five years.
Getting hired in Canada as a US Citizen presents some challenges, but it is possible and the rewards can be great. A “Work Permit” is required for a foreigner to legally obtain employment in Canada. A Work Permit is limited in scope to a fixed amount of time, and the employer must prove to the Canadian government that a native Canadian could not be obtained for the position.
A “Permanent Residence” status offers long-term unlimited residence in Canada. It takes longer to obtain than a work permit, but offers the freedom to work for any employer in any position except governmental office.
Waterloo Region has incredible employment opportunities and was recently rated third in the entire nation in terms of growth over 2010. The Region is host to several hospitals, universities, and global tech companies.
